Chicken Tikka Sandwich
A home-style recipe for Chicken Tikka Sandwich. Makes 4 sandwiches, ready in about 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 300 g boneless chicken, in thin strips
- ¼ cup (60 g) yogurt, plus 3 tbsp for the sauce
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 tbsp tikka masala (from a packet) / 1 tsp red chilli powder, ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp cumin powder and ½ tsp garam masala
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp green chutney or chilli sauce, for the sauce
- 8 slices bread
- 1 onion, sliced into thin rings
Missing something?
- No bread? Use roti or paratha as a wrap.
- No chicken? Use mutton or beef (cook longer), or soya chunks.
- No yogurt? Use milk with 1 tsp lemon juice, rested 10 minutes.
- No onion? Use spring onions, or a little onion powder (less depth).
Method
- Mix the chicken with the ¼ cup yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, tikka masala, salt and lemon juice. If you use packet masala, use only half the salt. If you have time, leave it for 30 minutes; if not, cook it right away.
- Heat the oil and cook the chicken on high heat for 10–12 minutes, stirring, until cooked, dry and browned at the edges.
- Mix the 3 tbsp yogurt with the chutney and a pinch of salt.
- Toast the bread if you like. Spread the sauce on 4 slices, add the chicken and onion rings, and cover with the rest.
