Pizza Sandwich
A home-style recipe for Pizza Sandwich. Makes 8 open sandwiches, ready in about 20 minutes, with steps for the usual way and for the air fryer.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 tomatoes, grated / 4 tbsp ketchup
- ½ tsp ginger-garlic paste
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp crushed red chilli
- ½ tsp dried oregano (optional)
- 8 slices bread
- 1 capsicum (shimla mirch), finely chopped
- 1½ cups (150 g) grated cheese
Missing something?
- No bread? Use roti or paratha as a wrap.
- No cheese? Use skip it, or use cheese spread.
- No tomato? Use 1 tbsp tomato paste per tomato, or 2 tbsp yogurt for tang.
- No capsicum? Use extra cabbage or onion.
In a pan
- Heat the oil and add the grated tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, salt, chilli and oregano. Cook on medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring, until thick and jammy. If you use ketchup, just mix it with the spices.
- Spread the sauce over one side of each slice of bread. Sprinkle with the capsicum and top with the cheese.
- Put 4 slices in a large frying pan, cover and cook on low heat for 5–6 minutes, until the bottoms are crisp and the cheese melts and bubbles. Repeat with the rest.
- Or bake them all together at 200°C for 8–10 minutes.
Tip: Keep the heat low and the lid on; the cheese melts before the bread burns.
In the air fryer (about 15 min)
- Spread bread with tomato sauce, add cheese and capsicum, and close the sandwich.
- Air fry at 180°C for 5 to 7 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Air fryer tip: Pin the top slice with a toothpick, or the fan can lift it off.
Air fryer basics: Heat the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes first. Don't fill the basket more than halfway. Brush or spray a little oil. Turn or shake halfway. Use paper liners with holes. Air fryers vary, so check a few minutes early the first time.
